The other night, I was scrolling Reddit and came across a thread where people listed everything they’d stopped paying for… because the price just isn’t worth it anymore.

One of the most common answers was fast food – since the higher prices and lower quality combo doesn’t add up.

Every fast food brand is feeling this loss of customers.

And it prompted Burger King to release one of the most radically transparent apology ads I’ve seen.

In this well-written ad, Burger King’s president dares to admit – out loud, in a national commercial – the exact flaws customers have been calling them out on for years (something most brands refuse to do 😩).

And as you can see in the YouTube comments, the response to this commercial has been stellar.

The ad works because Burger King was willing to admit they sucked.

When you publicly acknowledge what went wrong and hand the power back to the customer, you stop being the brand that messed up and start being the brand that listened.

To write an ad like this, listen to your market’s loudest complaints and address exactly how you’re going to fix them.


Burger King got ahead of their market by being the first to admit their own flaws and fix them.

The next ad took a completely different approach and got ahead by waiting for their competitor to mess up first.
